Book Review: “Uncommon Unity,” by Richard Lints

Diversity and unity are common buzzwords in the modern United States, but they’re also important and celebrated biblical truths that Christians ought to spend more time thinking about, defending, and rejoicing in. I recently had the privilege of reviewing a fantastic book by Richard Lints, and in it he presses us to see the beauty of unity in diversity (as the Bible presents it) as opposed to uniformity instead of diversity (as the world would have us believe).

Here’s an excerpt:

What was true of Adam and Eve is also true of the church. We need one another. Christian unity is of the utmost importance because Christ bled and died to accomplish it. We exist in the already/not yet, where “the church’s unity has already been accomplished in Christ’s life, death, and resurrection, yet is still waiting to be fully accomplished” (174). And it’s because of this that Christians should never be dissuaded from the work of unity (173).
