Assurance of Freedom

“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”

John 8:36

So…

Because of man’s enslavement to sin, there must be intervention from another.

So if…

Not all will be set free from their sinful bondage by God Almighty who works all things according to the counsel of his will for his good pleasure.

So if the Son…

Jesus is the only begotten Son of the Father.  He, and he alone, is wholly righteous and worthy to inherit every heavenly blessing. Only through faith in the true Son can the Christian call upon God as Father.

So if the Son sets you free,…

Freedom from Satan, sin, and death is a gift of God’s grace. We cannot free ourselves.  Freedom is given by another. The first Adam brought death to all by his disobedience, but the second Adam set captives free and saved many though his obedience.  Christ, being completely God and completely man, is the second Adam. He, and he alone, has the power to set the captives free.

So if the Son sets you free, you will be free…

Salvation, just as it cannot be earned, cannot be taken away once it has been given. He who begins a good work of salvation will bring it to completion. Those being saved are justified before the Father in Christ. Though the souls are awakened to communion with God, the flesh is still full of sin.  The redeemed are being sanctified, but the war wages on while in the flesh. Those being saved, in hope, look to the full and complete redemption of their bodies, where there will be complete freedom.

So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

For those being saved, freedom from sin’s enslavement is assured. This means the Christian can, and should, rest in that assurance. Those being saved are as good as glorified. They have been sealed by the Holy Spirit and no one can snatch them from the Father’s hand. Nothing can separate them from the love of Christ.
