“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
John 14:6
Jesus said to him…
It seems pretty typical of Thomas to doubt Jesus (v.5), but what Jesus shows himself faithful to do to Thomas multiple times in the Gospel accounts he is also faithful to do to all of those who inquire. Jesus answers. The challenge is found in accepting truth that may be different than what you were expecting.
Jesus said to him “I am the way…
Jesus is the way to get to the place that he is preparing for his redeemed. He’s the door by which the sheep enter the fold. He’s the way that we belong to, and the way of salvation that we proclaim. The way of Jesus is not easy, and the cost must be counted, but he’s the only way.
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth…
Jesus is the truth that John the Baptist bore witness to. He’s the truth that, if known, sets us free. He’s the truth that is in us and we are sanctified by. He’s the I AM. Jesus claims God’s very name for himself and there is only truth in God.
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life…
Jesus is life and life in abundance. He’s the bread that nourishes. He’s the serpent lifted up in the wilderness that may be looked upon to find healing, restoration, and life. He’s the resurrection and the life. He’s the author, giver, and sustainer of life. In the knowledge of him is where eternal life is found, and it is found in no other.
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father…
We are not able to come to the Father on our own. We must come through Christ as we are drawn to the Father in, and by, him. For this very purpose the Father sent the Son–to be the Savior of the world–thereby allowing those who could not come to the Father, to come.
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Jesus is the good shepherd that lays his life down for the sheep. He’s the lamb that was slain, and he’s the conquering king. Due to this, only through faith in Jesus’ atoning sacrifice and triumphal resurrection can we come to the Father. Indeed, if we have, though faith, seen Jesus we have seen the Father. There is only one way to the Father: through Jesus. He’s the exclusive way. He’s the exclusive truth. He’s the exclusive life. And Jesus will include all who call upon him in faith.
