A wise rabbit once said, “if you can’t say something nice, don’t say nothing at all.” And while the Proverbs would agree with Thumper, for even a fool is counted wise when he zips his lips (Prov. 17:28), what’s better than abstaining from godless slander is engaging in godly support.
Whether you know it or not, over the last two-plus years we’ve been lacking a vital nutrient from our interpersonal diets: encouragement. Ray Ortlund has said, “No one you meet today is under encouraged in the Lord.” My most recent article over at The Gospel Coalition should be seen as a call to help our encouragement-anemic brothers and sisters by encouraging them all the more as we see the Day drawing near.
Here’s an excerpt:
…as we gaze on the path ahead of us, let’s remember the apologetic of love Jesus gave us, and let us labor to stir one another up in it. Let us meditate on the true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, excellent, and praiseworthy things we see in our brothers and sisters (Phil. 4:8). And let us encourage one another in light of the pregnant, eternal hope we have in Christ’s return!
